Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

Has anyone tried using a Virtual Machine installed on your T61p and make it use alot of the RAM you have installed to see if it also
create the symptoms...  I was wondering if it happens when as some say your Dual Channel Sync being corrupted while using large amounts of RAM.   I use VMWARE for my virtual machines for testing at work...since I'm a Sys Admin...but haven't tried it with both RAM sticks.   And I use 11 VM's with my 1 stick of 2gb RAM and it's uses 84% of my RAM.  I really wanted this Laptop for the Total 4gb for this sort of work...so let's see if it doesn't like all the RAM being used with both Sticks in the slots.

If nothing happens then it's safe to say the problem surely includes the Nvidia card and something else (RAM or CPU) not playing well with each other.

Hi everyone!  I haven't been around much lately.  Just wanted to see how things are going and chime in with my 2 cents.

"So what's better at this point: motherboard replacement, buy 2 gb memory dim, wait for a solution?"

Well for me and a couple others, the motherboard replacement didn't really solve the problem.  So there's that.  I think your best option would be to wait for a solution.  There are things you can do meanwhile to enhance usability like only populating 1 dimm slot and other settings that have been mentioned,  but the only Lenovo knows how to truly fix the issue.

"I hope lenovo will at least one day give a solution to the problem, while at the mean time im holding high hopes for T61p"

You know they will, what's there to worry about?  Let me quote Mark (who has gone to bat for us from the beginning to get this problem fixed):

"Earlier this year several members volunteered their systems to send in for testing and analysis, and those efforts, in conjunction with all the testing and experimentation of this group helped narrow things down and we were able to recreate and ultimately solve the symptoms."
...
"getting from A to B isn't simply a matter of shouting louder to garner more attention, management focus, or of someone not doing their job.  There are many people involved and many jobs to do.

I ask for you to bear with us a bit longer.  Thanks."

So there it is... From his post you can see that they have a solution, and it will be available soon.

Hellborne, nice try, but you see, so far it looks to us like "a bit longer" and "soon" is being repeated in an infinite loop... If you count the loop's iteriations and multiply it by "a bit longer" it turns out to be quite a significant (and frustrating) amount of time.

On the other side, the prices of laptops (and esp. GPUs) are falling and new models are being released by competitors, and when fixed T61p finally comes out, it might not even be an option anymore because Lenovo might fail to recognize that its value has fallen significantly while they were delaying its launch "a little longer", "a tad more" and "very soon". :smileytongue:
To me getting the fix done is only half an issue right now. The other half is the pricing of T61p. Do you think they can get both things done right? And soon? :smileywink:

Hi, I just ordered my t61p last monday and today got an e-mail saying it had shipped. After reading the messages here I am concerned! I use AutoCAD for drawing and basic rendering. I also play with Pinnacle studio. No real games. I ordered a T9300, win XP, nvidia quadro fx 570m (256), & 3gb ram.

Should I be concerned? Is this problem just with intensive games?
