just looking over the posts from the beginning and the lenght of time it's taking to supply the "fix"  means we are in for a Recall folks.

If it was software it would've been here like 2 months ago.  **bleep**.   I hate being without my laptop.

Although I have no idea what the fix is and it does sound like it's something we would have to send our laptop in for... I am still holding out hope that the fix can be done with software (bios or drivers).

The length of time in my opinion does not point either way.  Even if it is a software fix it could be taking this long to properly implement, test and prepare distribution for it.  Lenovo's a big company and a lot of times things move slowly in a big company.  It's not like an engineer finds the issue on Monday, a fix is implemented by next Monday and then it gets sent out to the public the following Monday.  This kind of stuff can take months to do.  I'm sure there are a lot more steps than I listed here and I'm sure many of them take more than a week.  I'm pretty sure some may take more than a month.  Think of all the approvals, red tape, legal issues, PR, etc that has to go into something that fixes an issue like this.  So, I don't think we can base guesses on the time taken.

If I were to make a guess... I guess we will have to send it in based on the fact that they won't say if the fix is hardware or software related.  If it were software they could probably say "Hey, it's going to be a bios/driver update" and it would not affect sales in any way.  People would still buy the laptop knowing that it can be patched later.  If it is hardware and they say "Hey, you'll need to send your machine in to get the fix" that has the potential to affect sales as many people would not buy the laptop knowing they may need to send it back in if they get the issue.

Of course maybe they don't even know yet.  It's possible that a possible solution was found and it's being tested but that they don't want to say either way in case the tests come back negative or they find out something else unexpected.  Imagine if Lenovo said "Good news, the fix is software" and then a week or month later they say "oops, actually we found something else and you need to send your machine in.".  How bad a PR mess would that be?

I am glad that Lenovo is working on a fix and that this issue is being acknowledged.

to lautamas This is lottery. if i'm planning to buy it and know about this issue i dont buy this notebook. Better buy goood T60p with IPS. Not T61 or T61P. T61\T61p is very unsuccessful model i think (no IPS, not enough models whith classic monitor 4:3, and this stupid issue)

I got my new T61p.  I dunno if I have any problems because I don't know how to test the things.  I did try out guitar hero III on it and it works without any lags.  My friends and I played it for 3-4 hours straight non-stop.  Well, if someone wants to teach me how to test everything, I'll be happy to do it.  If it works then I'm guessing Lenovo has solved the problem

@above: thank you so much for helping. I would really love to know if you experience any of the symptoms mentioned in this thread when playing graphic intensive apps.

Yesterday i'm finished playing Call of duty 4. I played it about many times . No BSOD, no nothing. Pro evolution soccer 2008 give me Bsod after 15-30 minutes. Pro evolution Soccer 3 no bsoding. Stalker and Crysis  give me BSOD. Gta: San Andreas no give me BSOD. I played it 6 hours non stop.  Hitman 2 give BSOD after 1 hour. I thinked it is driver, but i try many video drivers (from lenovo server, from laptopvideo2go) and still have Bsod ('Memory parity error').

Looks like Lenovo will soon release new ThinkPads that will render the T61p obsolete.

Now, put that together with the current T61p situation (i.e. nothing's happening, it's still broken) and you might get even more frustrated - as I am. Because my guess is the fixed T61p will be in stores around early May and if the abovementioned rumor is correct, a month later we'll start seeing the first of the new ThinkPads. Which means many people may choose to wait for the new stuff instead of buying the no-longer-state-of-the-art T61p. I've waited almost 2 months (since I decided to buy) for the T61p to get fixed - only to learn that I might want to wait another 2 months to get the proper new thing?!

I'm tired.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy to see that Lenovo has those new models in the lineup. From the rumor they look really fantastic. But the whole timing is just impossible... I just wanted to buy a good laptop. I waited. And I waited long - way too long - as we all have. And now I'll have to wait more. It's unbearable.

Maybe I'll start liking my desktop again. At least it is here and it works.

(BTW, I hope those new ThinkPads will have decent NVidia GPUs, and not just ATI's, as the rumor says. For a gamer, ATI may be fine, but for an engineer, and especially for a programmer, ATI's just not good enough. Performance-vs-cost ratio is not all that matters - otherwise this kind of people wouldn't be choosing ThinkPad in the first place, right?)
