Florian,

The motherboard replacement shouldn't have anything to do with warranty being reflected online.   I.e., a service event shouldn't have triggered a change in the reflected warranty time period.  So I notice you have a CTO model listed - assume this was bought in US and taken to Romania?

I looked it up now and it shows a base 1 year warranty.  Some of these did have 1 year and some had 3.   It's possible you had a 3 year extended warranty that got dropped?

Do you have your original order number, the one that started 2Cxxxxx  ?

Can you send me in a PM?  Let me see what was originally sold and what you should have and we can update as needed.

All,

Realistically, we are still several weeks away from having all the new part numbers in stock for service and can update the MIGR tip with the full set of part numbers.

Mark

Hello everybody!  I heard my name mentioned so I thought I would chime in.

Just wanted to let you know, I have the 42W7653 planar but mine was repaired.

The system runs stable now, I have played Crysis for 8 hours straight with no crashes.  I have had all-night lan parties since the fix and I can't make this system crash now despite the 4gb of RAM.

Heat is another story, it can get hot.  I use one of those alumium laptop cooler pedestals when gaming, which solves the heat issue completely.  I also use tpfancontrol to make sure the fan is cooling adequately but only when I'm gaming.

The fix makes a big difference, I see some people were underclocking their GPU to avoid crashes.  Well after the fix, and using a laptop cooler, and after making sure there is good contact between the GPU and its heatsink, the computer will run stable with the GPU clock at 660 MHz, and the memory bus at 1001 MHz, for hours and hours (that's 660/1001 vs. stock speed which is 475/702).  I tried this for stability testing purposes, I wouldn't do this on a regular basis as it is most likely going to stress your hardware more than usual.  I wanted to see if there was a safety margin with the fix.

From what I can tell the fix definitely solves the problem.

Also I'm not sure if Lenovo discourages messing with the whole heatsink thing, but I have to say, it really is a good idea to check yours if you are having stability problems, it really makes a big difference if the heatsink isn't on tight.  Especially check this if your laptop has been to the depot, the depot guys seem to be the main offenders when it comes to shoddy heatsink mounting.

So can the people who have 42W7653 call in to get their planars replaced or do we have to Wait until the MIFG tip is updated? Thanks

I would just like to know which planar I have. The parts lookup (manual and automatic) give me an error. In fact I can't even get any information on my warranty. Is there anyone here I could PM with my system info so they could look up my part numbers?

I'm quite certain I have this problem. It doesn't seem to happen when I just have 1x1GB DIMM installed. Although it only happens with two DIMMs when it's warm in my work area and I'm playing a graphic intensive game. My system was built in early October 2007 and the problem wasn't evident during the colder winter months. I could go hours without a crash and hard reset. Now I can't play anything for more than 20-30 minutes during the day. I don't know if it's related, but like I said it only seems to happen when two DIMMs are installed.

I'd be more than willing to send in my system for repairs if I can be sure the part in the support page will be replaced. I don't want to send it in and either have nothing replaced or have the part replaced by another part with the same exact problem. Would it be better to wait a few weeks to call Lenovo support or can we start calling now and hope the person we talk with is aware of the problem?

Yams, did anyone do parts lookup for you yet?  If not, I can do it for you, you can PM me your serial number.  Parts lookup appears to be working for me.

Im glad I finally found this thread. I have a 42W7653 FRU planar. I used to have random freezes while playing games before, I just always though it was because I had the LaptopVideo2go modified inf drivers. Now I have been getting BSODs with a STOP 0x0000000A error whenever playing games. I think its from the same problem as the freeze and is due to the planar. Hopefully the MIGR is updated soon so I can try and get it serviced. I just recently had to get a new HD cause my old one is faulty, glad I am still under warranty.

Thanks for all the Support Mark.
