Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

@Daegalus, if it is so (about the after May 1st models) then it is my mistake. I read quite many pages of this topic and i did not read something relevant (maybe i missed it). However, if i am not wrong, this problem exists for a year now and when i am called to pay 2.600 euros (or $4. 096) here in Greece, unless i manage to get it from another country, i just need to know that i will have a computer that works and that IBM will be able to solve a bit faster any problem. I have experienced probs with 2 toshiba laptops before and that's why i am willing to "invest" to the IBM/Lenovo brand.

Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

2008-06-30, 16:07 PM

Just wanted to post another update, I have a T61p system which had the planar ending in 53, and it had the crashing problems.  I had it fixed almost 2 months ago.  I believe I was one of the very first to get the fix on the ....53 planar.

I play games A LOT, on a daily basis.  I don't ever shut down or reboot my laptop, I just put it in sleep mode (close the lid).

The laptop has not had a single crash or shutdown since I got it back from the repair.  Not one crash in almost 2 months, on a computer that gets used all day every day and gets lots of games played on it.  You would have a hard time finding a tester who works a system harder than me.

I'm just saying, those who have this issue, don't worry it's all taken care of now, just send it in.  You'll be glad you did.

samirlsn:

i'm having the same situation as yours. They(Lenovo) replaced the same 42w7653 for my T61p instead of 44C3931.After removing the two memory DIMMs, i can see "42W7653" clearly on the planar. As you had said, the replaced planar seems to function well. I'll keep trying other games to see if the lock up problem still exists. Anyway, thanks for your help for telling me how to check the planar FRU!

@hellbore: I am very pleased to hear that your T61p is now working properly. I hope that this will also be my destiny when my laptop returns for the second time. As I recall you were lucky enough to get it fixed by the guys looking for the cause of this problem.

But I totally disagree, that just not to worry will lead to a solution here. Lenovo is not taking this issue as serious as they should. In my case the Lenovo support has been aware of this problem for over 6 month now. Why is a third try necessary to fix my laptop? I did send it in when the fix announced here was already public. Why is Lenovo changing boards with the same fru? Why wasn't my laptop tested before sending it back to me? Why isn't lenovo willing to replace the whole laptop?  I don't think that waiting another 2 month to get a "new" motherboard replaced or just trying to replace the board with one of the same FRU are good alternatives.

I have been buying ibm and lenovo hardware since 1988. I always bought them because of their superior quality - there was no need of getting in contact with support. But with this nightmare going on for 6 month, I will for sure look for an alternative the next time I need to buy a new latop/pc. Especially when I look at the loss of the price of my laptop. Next time wait 6 month and buy it for the half of the price when it is bugfixed and can be used in a poductive environment.

Frustrated, but still hoping...

As I mentioned on page 63 of this thread I had my planar replaced (42W7653), however when I checked under the ram, it was replaced by the same one 42W7653. I didn't have much time to play since then until recently and the problem seems to be fixed. However one thing I've noticed ThinkVantage system update won't work now, since they didn't put the right part number for my motherboard in the bios. I tried to fix that with the bios update tool, no luck. Any ideas on how to fix that? my model and type is 6459CTO in bios it's blank and in windows registry it reads TP-7L__

Cheers,

Dev

I wonder if this problem is related. Apparently Nvidia is doing a recall on a large batch of defective laptop GPUs. Hmmmmm....

Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

I got my t61p back from the repairshop today and to my surprise my new planar was the 42W7877 and NOT the newer 44C3931...

I previously had the 42W7653, which was a replacemant for the 42W7877.

Even mor to my surprise i have been able to play a complete level i Hl2 Episode 2 without any difficulties (this was previously almost impossible)

I am however worried that the problem will return, and in a worst case scenario after my one year "parts and labour"-warranty has expired. Any tips on how to continue with this one?

It should be noted that they replaced the 53 with the 77 even though i sent in a printout of MIGR 69684 and a transcript of a PM-conversation with Mark.
