Melodicwynd,

This thread is indeed long and full of a lot of material to slog through.  In the forum, we have "accepted solutions" which you will see in discussions, and when a thread gets solved, you will see "solved" in the title.

For any solved thread, go to the first message and there is a button on the right side of the first post to jump to the solution.  In this case, it will take you a message that explains the potentially affected boards, when the change was made in manufacturing.  You should be able to look up your model type and serial number to determine when you system was built, what board was used, and whether this is likely your trouble.   If you need help, you can send me a PM with your model & serial and I'll be happy to look it up and advice, but I think reading the solution will help you.

Techcafe,

The T61p's ran for for 18 months or so in production and went through several processor revisions.  This issue had nothing to do with the withdraw from marketing of this system, and everything to do with our change to the new series accross all of ThinkPad.  The new W500 replaced the T61p model.  The T61 became the T400 and T500, the R61 became the R400/R500, and the SL 300/400/500 came out along with the W700, X200, X300, X301 .

If your T61p systems were built after March of this year, they shouldn't be potentially affected by these symptoms.

Best regards,

Mark

Graphic Problem =(

2009-01-05, 13:38 PM
Hi, I recently experienced this problem where by I was playing game halfway, my laptop(T61) screen just went blackout with some stripping lines across the screen. I plug out my laptop battery and plug it back in and I on it again. My screen was blank but the power was on. However, I took my battery and waited around 10mins and I plug it back and I turn it on again. And it recovers. I was wondering is it my graphic card is experiencing problem? I am scare that it will happen again. I got tons of work to do and I am really scared now =(.

If you got the T61 with the Nvidia GPU, it is probably failing prematurely since Nvidia had manufacturing problems in these GPU, and they admitted that several months back...... so if you got warranty, it is time to exercise them regardless....

you have to call Lenovo in Singapore, and they will direct you to the repair or pick up the laptop using courier service........ but give them a call........

2009-01-06, 1:51 AM
I was  wondering if I were to purchase a t61p from the Lenovo Outlet, should I expect to experience any of the problems listed here?

leag_org,

I appreciate your input here, but we are not seeing high fallout of nvidia GPUs at this time.   You are free and encouraged to state your opinion, but please bear in mind that many readers will accept it as fact.  GPUs can and do fail for a variety of reasons.   There is often a tendancy after a highly publicized event to quickly attribute symptoms to that event, when they may or may not actually be the true underlying cause.

The advice to purchase an extended warranty is certainly fair as any component in a computer has potential to fail, and the extended warranty provides extended peace of mind that a user is covered by Lenovo.

I also agree that you gave Keno sound advice to contact warranty support now to doccument the symptoms and seek problem determination and warranty service as required.

Robertws1300,

The potential for the lockup / crash when gaming with 2 dimms was a vintage issue.  If you are purchasing a new system through the outlet, it is extremely unlikely you would get one that could be affected.   With the sales rates of the outlet, and the update to manufacturing on early 2008, it is also unlikely that a refurb unit would contain a board that would be affected at this point in time.

Best regards,

Mark
