Crg,

It’s easy. Click on the “Options” at the top right of your message and then click on “Edit Reply”.  Make sure you’re signed in when you try to edit your message.

By the way, with me, one sure way to trigger the failure was to use PC Doctor and run a test for the GPU. As certain as day comes after each night, when the test entered the second phase, the computer would go...

Besides, when I got to service, they took my explanation as the starting point and they already called to say the problem seemed to be located with the fan. But I will report the final verdict, when it comes from service. Then again, my laptop is still under extended warranty, so this may have some bearing on their initial approach, I believe.

 Good luck.

Crg,

It’s easy... Click on the “Options” at the top right of your message and then click on “Edit Reply”.

Just be sure you’re signed in when you try to edit your message.  You must sign-in BEFORE you click the Options box.

If you're signed out, the option does not even appear in the box.

Hope this helps and that it may still be useful...

Cheers.

Crg

It's strange. I'm sorry. I don't know what else to say.

I know this is not resolving the main issue you are experiencing with your laptop, but could you just let me know the answers for these two questions, please:

1 -- At the top left of the page, where the title "T61 and prior T series ThinkPad Laptops" is, what can you read in the line that is immediately underneath?

2 -- And can you list here what exactly are the "options" you encounter after you click on the Options button?

Just trying to help, please be patient...

Cheers.

Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crashes""

Back to reporting about the issue with my T61p, as described in my posting dated 04/15/2010 at 07:02 PM...

I have my machine back from service, which was, as I had said, the second intervention in less than one month. The first one had been due to the infamous "1 long beep, 2 short beeps and dead" issue. And this one was for something more like "sudden death, with no prior warning or explanatory message afterwards"...

WIth an apology, Service explained that my last problem had been due to a faulty fan, which they replaced. They further explained that the machine had been submitted to numerous tests and they all passed, which lead them to be confident the problem was resolved.

Great! I hope it stands. If not, then something more radical may have to be done. Sure enough, Mark has been steadfastly ready, all along, to offer his help, if it becomes necessary, and this is quite reassuring.

So, for now, many thanks to Mark for his continued support and let's wait and see what the near future may bring on the health status of my T61p.

One last detail:

If anything, I notice the machine seems to work a little more sluggishly. I want to believe that during this last repair service, only the fan was replaced, as I was told, and nothing else was done in terms and for the purpose of "slowing down" the machine to help cool it a little bit, so to speak... I don't know whether such thing could possibly be done or if it makes any sense at all, I'm just wondering. Be it as it may, whatever the cause, the fact remains --  the machine seems noticeably slower.

Cheers.

It seems that I may be seeing the same problem. What did you do in order to run those local and non-local video memory tests? I want to recreate the problem so that I can show it to my IT guys.

I've sent it in for a motherboard replacement because the idle temp is like 65 degrees celcius. The technician called back and said they only replaced the fan+heat sink. Is that good enough? Should I insist on the entire motherboard be replaced as well?

Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

2010-09-07, 17:01 PM

I just discovered this problem a couple of days ago. My parts warranty expired on August 10, 2010 and now support tells me I need to pay up to $575 to get this fixed.

This should really be covered by Lenovo, even if it's out of warranty. I was a registered owner but did not get any emails about this problem to test if my laptop was affected. I don't want to run my laptop with only 2GB of RAM instead of the 4 GB I paid for.

I have two personal ThinkPads and have bought 2 other Lenovos (IdeaPad and IdeaCentre) for my family based on the great experience I have had until now. I'd hate to have to change that opinion.

It would still be cheaper for me to fix this with paid support than buy a new laptop with 4GB of RAM, but if that happens, I will not be buying any more Lenovos.

@Mark is there anything you can do about this?
