T61p XP Pro disk usage

2008-02-26, 17:23 PM
Hi all,

I just got my T61p, and it's great, except that the base installation (XP Pro) has a huge footprint.  For example, c:\windows is 6GB.  Ya what?  There's a whole bunch of stuff in there from the installation that isn't in a regular XP installation.  Total disk usage is approaching 20GB with nothing else installed.  Has anyone gone through a cleanup exercise on one of these machines?

Get a program CCleaner, to clean up temporary files and other unwanted stuff.
The used space could be from Windows Updates (files starting with c:\windows\$NtUninstallKBxxxxx),
the Page ile, the Hibernation file, system backups, etc.
Go to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs, and uninstall all the demo crapware/bloatware programs that came with your new toy.
