Re: T61p exhibiting 1 long and 2 short beep and black screen

ClausM,

IWS is not a fee offering - you can't buy it.   IWS is automatically available based on certain models eligibility in particular countries.  You can put in your model type here.   I see the 7662 is not covered in Germany, but as you note Hong Kong is covered.   If your system is in the US, I can try to help you  -  otherwise, you will need to seek service in one of these countries.

Re: T61p exhibiting 1 long and 2 short beep and black screen

2010-09-10, 18:31 PM

All,

I have advised customers who were experiencing a garbled display that was present in BIOS and on attached external displays to contact support.  Garbled displays that occur within Windows, but not in BIOS are most likely caused by corrupt video drivers. Please ensure you have updated your drivers to the latest version with those found on Lenovo's support site before contacting support. If you have experienced these symptoms on a T61 or T61p model system in BIOS, please contact support.  The support agent will be able to assist you with in warranty repairs, and in determining if additional coverage is available to you.

To help guide other customers who may find this discussion, I'm marking this as the solution.  If you have contacted support, and have a T61 or T61p experiencing these systems, and need help please send me a PM.

Please contact support, and explain your troubles and give them a chance to help before you seek my assistance.  I want to help, but I think many customers are contacting me directly and I can't reasonable help everyone one by one.

UPDATE 1/4/2011

Previously, I have advised customers to contact service for assistance with the symptoms discussed here. In an effort to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty, Lenovo has repaired a number of systems as post warranty exceptions. Lenovo will continue the post warranty support; however, with some revisions to the extended coverage effective December 31, 2010.

Customers who experience these symptoms on qualifying models that are no more than six months beyond expiration of warranty should continue to contact support for assistance. This additional coverage ends March 31, 2011.

Coverage beyond this date is available under the terms and conditions of extended warranty or maintenance agreements. Warranty extensions may be purchased for systems that are still within the base warranty period, and post warranty maintenance agreements may be purchased to provide coverage after base and extended warranty periods have expired. Extended warranties and maintenance agreements are a great way to ensure coverage for all the major system components.

Update 10/5/11 - Closing the discussion as the extended coverage ended six months ago.

Best regards,

Mark

NEED HELP!!!

My T61p meets  1 long 2 short beep and dead problem.

I contacted your service in the UK.

I contacted your partner in the UK.

I contacted the warranty department.

I contacted the hardware department.

I try upgrading my warranty online.

All failed!

I bought my T61p in America, and am living in Manchester, UK now.

I really need it recovered ASAP. I have lots of work to do with it!!!

My questions are:

1. Is it possible to get a free replacement of the motherboard, because of the GPU problem?

2. Can I upgrate my warranty in the UK for my T61p?

3. If so, how can I upgrate it?

Can you help please?

Thank you

1. you can try and see what happens.

2. Yes, you need to purchase the post warranty warrranty called Thinkplus, you can get that through Lenovo customer service in UK.

3. You need to call them up to find out. But it would take at least 2 weeks between purchase and warranty updated (provided that you use credit card).

@ o0julius0o

just try a warm-up solution. I recovered my T61P about 10 times warming it up in laptop's bag before. Because I needed lappy badly, I worked with that failure about 2 months still recovering in bag when needed :)

Finally when job was done - returned lappy to service and got mobo replaced.

Took 4 days and MoBo was replaced under Warranty w/o any problems.

@All

Do You know, if FRU 43Y9048 are free of nvidia's failures ?

Anyway, just ordered a new W510 - will see if Lenovo drawed a conclusion from previous models :)

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

I had the above problem and did as you say and contacted my nearest service centre. They asked me to send my laptop to them for inspection which I did at a cost of £25 in postage, they apparently replaced the faulty Systems Board and on return it appeared to be working fine, but a week later my laptop appears to have totally died, no bleeps, no lights, no signs of life at all.  Now it looks as if I am going to have to spend another £25 in postage returning my laptop to the service centre yet again.  My question is, even though my warranty says that I stand the cost of delivery, under these circumstances should Lenovo not be covering this cost and secondly what might my new problem be with my laptop and is there anything I can try with regard to reviving my laptop myself.

Regards,

peter

@peterp. While within warranty, those subsequent repairs round trip should be paid for by the depot. However, since you are out of warranty, the fact they are not charging you for the repair is already very fortunate, so you can expect too much in terms of extra freebies from the depot and warranty support end.

Try to take out the ram, battery and press the start button ten time in 30 sec intervals, and then replace everything, see whether that starts the laptop again.
