Two foot fall

2008-02-26, 22:42 PM
my T61 suffered a pretty bad fall onto a hard surface a few days ago from a height of two-three feet. Performance unaffected, so far -- except a new humming noise, particularly when the thing runs hot (i.e., after it's been continiously on for more than an hour).
What say other people?  Should I be worried? Is there anythign I can do about it? I just moved to Croatia, I have no idea of a reliable shop to take it to, should that be necessary.

You may want to open up your T61, and inspect the insides for broken parts. The fall could have dislocated the Cooler on top of the CPU by just a fraction, causing stress where there was none before. Or it's casing may have warped around there.
That could cause your new 'whine'.
Another (very strong) possibilty is your hard disk got damaged, and is on it's last legs.
Get the Hardware Maintenance Manual, which will show you how to open it up.
You may void your warranty, but if you have nowhere to go, you also could save yourself a bundle by becoming a DIY person.
