Does anyone know if the shockmeter is integrated in the harddisk or in the rest of the computer ?

Accelerometer is on the system board. Think Pad active protection system takes a feedback from there is safely parks its head if detects non-normal movement.

There are also HDDs available in market that have motion sensors which basically do the same thing.

I wonder weather one should turn off active protection if any HDD also has motion sensor/accelerometer built in the disk itself.
