XP conversion process has stopped

2009-01-06, 16:48 PM

I have followed all the steps up to .... Remove the Rescue and Recovery disc when prompted and your computer will restart.. At the prompt I removed the RandR disc but the  "Rescue and Recovery 4 screen just hangs there and after waiting half an hour I tried manual restart Ctrl+Alt+Del and even the on off button but it will not respond

HELP what is the next step please?

Hello and welcome!

We need some more information on what you're doing. It sounds like you're trying to recover the system back to Windows XP? Did you burn the recovery discs or purchase them?

You say the system will not turn off. Press and hold the power button until the system turns off - then try to restart it and let us know what happens.

Also it would be helpful to know which system you have and the MTM. Click here for details on how to find this information

Thanks for your help - holding the button down for a long time worked! The installation is moving on with XP installed (and Norton IS) I am now updating via Thinkvantage and then it will be Microsoft's turn for updates - then install MS office,Outlook and Photoshop, Firefox etc. Then all their updates and THEN I can actually use my new laptop.

Again thanks for very prompt response

John
