copy of large files via wireless card crashes nvidia driver

2011-05-20, 17:17 PM

Does anyone have a suggestion what I could do to avoid the issue where when I try to copy a large file over wireless network it crashes the nvidia driver (it says it stops working). I can provide more details if needed.

I am running the latest drivers from Intel and from Nvidia.

Hardware details:
Windows 7
T61, 7662CTO
NVIDIA Quadro NVS140M

Intel WIreless WiFi Link 4965AGN

I use wired connection to get around this issue.

Are your WiFi driver up to date?

I used to be able to crash my T61 7663-13G (NVS140M, Intel 802.11agn(n-disabled), ...) too with heavy WiFi traffic (e.g. 3 MiB/s over some time).

Haven't tried it lately and don't know it's gone.

do you have any other issues with the Nvidia driver or program?

Download Prime95 and run it, also you may want to run some 3Dmark benchmarks.

Finally, have you tried to update the bios recently?

The wifi driver is up to date. Wifi transfer rates are around 16MBps or 130Mbps.

Driver version is: 13.4.0.139. When I had Vista installed, the only driver version that worked fine with wifi was this version: 12.1.0.14 driver. May be I should re-install that driver.

Nvidia driver is 8.17.12.7061.

How do you expect that running prime95 would help? Just to stress the system?

Yes you want to stress the system, you probably need run the 3Dbenchmark and see what happens.

It is most likely your GPU that is on the way out.

I tried Prime95 test and the computer worked fine. CPU temp hovered around 93C while GPU hovered around 72C. They are high, but computer was stable and Nvidia driver did not crash. Any other suggestion?
