proper full native resolution with Samsung display on T61 & Quadro NVS 140m

2009-04-22, 22:06 PM
I can't configure my external display with it's full native resolution of 1680 x 1050. When I do, it cuts off on either side with black bands.

I'm on a Thinkpad T61 with 1440x900.

The Samsung 2253bw can show 1440 just fine. But 1680x1050 is it's native res.

Nvidia says the Quadro nvs 140m can show 1680x1050.

I've tried everything using the Nvidia control panel and the Thinkpad presentation director. If I change the resolution from the Vista control panel, I actually get a crisper display (no scaling) but at a small size with a black band all around.

Any suggestions??
thanks...

Just following up on this old thread.

It did turn out the monitor was defective. The digital out worked, but the analog was bunk. The replacement worked fine with the drivers.

What is the seven character configuration number? For example 7659-13U.

you should try to install the monitor drivers for your screen.

Forgot to ask, but can you post the specific model number of the external LCD you are using? Also any information that may be relevant or helpful would be great.

Samsung Syncmaster

Model: 2253bw

Model Code: LS22AQWJFV / XAA

In the NVIDIA control panel, setting Flat Panel Scaling is only available for the laptop's screen, not the external monitor.

You can view 2 photographs of the display at www.thecoup.org/samsung/

 - You'll see a square and circle at 1440x900 working properly

 - But at 1680x1050 things are skewed skinny and not using the full width of the display.

thanks...

Whoa, someone with the exact same T61 model as me. I too have a 7662-CTO, and I own a Samsung SyncMaster 205BW (20inch widescreen monitor with native 1680 x 1050 resolution).

I have experienced no problems is displaying 1680x1050 with the Nvidia Quadro 140M. I haven't installed any special monitor driver file, but maybe your Samsung model needs one?

Judging from the pictures you posted, I would try the monitor config settings on the monitor itself. Can you try to adjust the picture there? Also, what exactly are the steps you using to get the output? I typically have just done it within videos where I select the external display and say "extend desktop to external monitor" and then slide the resolution setting to 1680x1050 and it comes up fine.

Unless I'm missing it somewhere, there doesn't seem to be a display setting in bios for stretch. See the image of my bios screen.

It's very frustrating since no company will accept responsibility. Who do you think should take responsilibity? Samsung, Nvidia, or Lenovo? Is there any chance that Vista is hijacking the settings?

Have you tried to see if another laptop (a friend, colleague, etc) can work with the monitor?
