t61p - boot from SDHC?

2008-06-29, 14:45 PM

Howdy folks,

My t61p hard drive conked out the other day, and while waiting for a replacement I was wondering if would be possible to boot from my 8gb SDHC card?

I can't see any option for it in the bios (from memory it listed a usb hdd and 3 ata hdd's) but I wanted to doublecheck here just incase.

..And out of curiousity what would the other 2 ata hdd's be? Ultrabay and turbo-memory?

Hi there!

Welcome to the forums!

The SD card slot is not recognized as an USB device from which you can boot the system.... primarly, perhaps because it does require some sort of drivers to gain functionality in the first place ...as opposed by an onboard USB port.

I don't have any option in the BIOS to boot from the SD card slot in my X61 either...

The third ATA HDD would refer to the docking station adapter.

Hope that helps!

Steve

thanks for the info (and welcome!) icantux.

I guess I am going to have to try something silly like boot linux from a usb thumb drive and then execute pivot_root :)
