Hello,

another possible solution is to disable C4-states from processor.

Use the little program RMclock to do this for your.

Also check Lenovo support and driver pages for new bios updates, that may correct this problem.

But be careful and update your bios, if buzzing correction is mentioned in change list, only through

a bootable cd. You´ll find the .iso file also on support pages.

One way that fixed this for me was to go into the "Power Settings" in Vista, choose the power setting that you're using, go to "Change advanced power settings". Then go to USB Settings and under the USB selective suspend setting choose enable on the battery. Afterall that is the time we're hearing it, when it is on high performance without it being plugged in (battery mode).

Re: Need quick answer-T61p does it make whine noise?

2009-10-08, 18:23 PM

Hey, i had the same problem with the wine noise. Heres the solution.

  • For T61 / T61p: Make sure you are at BIOS version 7LETB9WW (2.20-1.08) or later ; Power Manager Version 1.43 or later; Power Management driver 1.50 or later.
  1. In Device Manager, under "Universal Serial Bus controllers", you should see several "USB Root Hub" items listed.
  2. Under the "Power Management" tab, you should see a check box for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
  3. If the check mark has been removed from the box, you will need to add it back (so if not checked, check it).
  4. You will need to do this for each and every one of the "USB Root Hubs" listed Some are USB 2.0 hubs (which actually should not affect this issue) and some are USB 1.1 hubs (which will affect the issue). We suggest putting a check mark in all of them (this is the way we ship the preload).

Note: If the above does not help, you may also disable CPU Power Management in the system BIOS. Under Config --:> Power --> CPU Power Management --> change to "Disable". Save and exit.

Hope this helps
