1802 error on Thinkpad T61 trying to add Intel 4965agn card

2008-08-17, 18:54 PM

Is there a way to install an Intel 4965agn miniPCI in a Thinkpad T61?  Have updated BIOS, etc., but no combination works.  Get 1802 error re: unathorized card and Google work-around's don't seem to work on T61 series (on my laptop anyway).

Regards

HSA

Welcome to the forum!

My guess is that you're trying to install a generic Intel card, and this will not work in a ThinkPad, since the BIOS detects it and blocks the boot with the message you've encountered.

Only IBM/Lenovo approved cards (with a FRU number on them) will work without triggering the error message. And from what I recall (might be wrong) there is no BIOS hack for newer ThinkPads, T61 included.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

George

Ok - thanks for the input George.

Would be nice frankly if Lenovo posted the BIOS that supports the cards that they also post drivers sets for like the Intel 4965agn (for folks that buy the laptops initially w/o wifi support).  Frankly that is why we purchased the Intel cards due to fact that the XP drivers were listed on the site for download and installation.  Have never run into this type of problem with other laptops as generally when supported drivers are available for download it implys that the cards will physically work as well.  Anyway off to trade the Intel for IBM wifi versions.

Best regards, HSA

Hi, I to have a thinkpad t61 and I'm having problems with my wireless card so I bought a new one and also got the 1802 error code. I was just curious if you got yours to work by buying a card with a Fru number on it or what you did if you got it to work. thanks
