BIOS update failed!

2008-06-14, 14:14 PM
Hello,

I was updating my BIOS today on my T61 and everything went fine and I was asked to reboot.  But when I rebooted all I heard was 2 short beeps and nothing else.  Now the laptop won't boot at all and the screen stays blank.  I think the BIOS was not updated properly.  I have been checking out the boot block jumper posts but they seem to be only for NetVista or ThinkCentre.  Is there any way of recovering from this condition on the T61?  Thank you.

This is very bad news. You might of and most likely messed up your BIOS. You might need to buy a new motherboard which is very expensive. I'm not 100% sure though. According to what you described I think that is the problem.

Hi,

Do you think I can take the notebook to an authorized service center where they can somehow restore a functioning BIOS?  Or is it best just to get the system board replaced (where the BIOS chip is soldered I assume)?  Thanks.

I think you should call either Lenovo or a business partner and ask what they can do....Anyway if your laptop can't boot you can't do anything by yourself.
T61p 6460-D8G, Vista (downgrade to XP soon...), T9300, Quadro FX570M, 15,4' WUXGA...

Call Lenovo.  A BIOS update is an approved procedure with complete instructions on their web site.  It should not trash your computer.
