Hi there fellow Lenovo-users
I'm sitting here with a Lenovo T43 thinkpad which will occassionally boot, but other times, fail with POST BIOS beeps 3-1-4-3. I've been searching Google for quite some time, but I haven't been able to find out what the heck that specific code means.
Does anyome here have a clue?

FrontierDK, welcome to the forum,
I also can't find that beep combination in the Maintainance Manuals. Normally when more beeps are involved it points to system board or memory.
edit: added PC-D link

I own a T43 which has the same problem of 3-1-4-3 beep code as FrontierDK. I found this link where you can check what this code means http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/pb/mb/phnxbeep.htm. However, I'm unable to proceed with any kind of diagnostic tests. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Oh I forgot to give my 7 character model number of my T43. It is 1871-D33. I had no problems till last week when my laptop just refused to even turn on the LCD. I did not install memory or did any other hardware change. I need to get this thing up and running soon, so please help.

I had the same problem with my T43. I googled my way to this forum. I tried the links and then somewhere got the notion that re-seating the memory would work. It did, but you need to do it to the ram UNDER the keyboard. Cross fingers but I have not had any problems since.
To get under the keyboard, find the manual here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-39298.html
Hope this helps!

Thanks for this hint! I had the same beep code 3-1-4-3 problem. Unscrewing one screw to remove the (somehow dusty) RAM block, cleaning the dust and reinserting the RAM again solved my problem!

Hello fellow 3-1-4-3'ers, I had this problem. I read Jaleo's response (4-13-2013 above), he re-seated the memory and it solved his problem. I re-seated the memory on my Lenovo ThinkPad model 8512 and restarted the computer - it booted correctly and the computer is now running fine. Thank you for the posts!! Bob
