Can anyone help me? IBM THINKPAD Type 1161-41G S/Nxxxxxxx

2014-05-07, 23:03 PM

Hi all,  Not sure if I am posting in the right place, but here goes.

I have a IBM THINKPAD Type 1161-41G S/N

I have had this for about 10 years, but it was put away about 6 years ago.

I got it out yesterday only to find that its own PWR supply dose not work, and not only that the external power lead and charger has disappeared.  I have also lost the Manual to the think pad.

What I am hoping is if there is someone who can tell me the correct Charger to get for the think pad as well how to get a manual for it and if possible a schematic layout of the machine.   I know that it has windows ME as it's operating System (Now that shows how old it is) so if I can get it working I should be able to run BeLarc Advisor and find out what else is on the think pad.

I would appreciate any help.

Welcome to the forum!

I believe that the correct charger for your machine is 16.5V/3.36 aka 56W ThinkPad AC adapter.

You should be able to pick it up for less than 10 quid on ebay.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George

Thank you George for answering my question,   I'll **bleep** to ebay and hope to pick one up.

Now what I hope I can can get hold of is the manual for it.

It seems to be a ThinkPad i1200. You can use the same power-supply as for A-Series, R30-52 or T20-43, 360, 380, 390 etc.

Thank you,  Tasurinchi,  that manual looks as if it may be the one for me but I'll let you know when I have read it a bit more.

Thanks Mornsgrans,  I appreciated your info.       I have managed to get a charger/adapter off ebay as George suggested.  ( and yes George you were right it was under a tenner and free postage too.) its a 16v 3.6a 54w  5mm x 2.5mm,  should get to me about 14th May so will have a go and see if she powers up. If I dont blow myself up I let you all know how it goes.

Regards

Elaine

Hi folks,  One happy bunny here,  got the charger/adapter, plugged it into the pwr lead plugged that into the laptop and she fired up as if she had been working all the time.

Can anyone tell me if I can update the memory and if so what would I need and is it a fairly easy job.?

I'd venture a guess that the best you can do is 320MB and you'd get there by replacing the current 128MB DIMM with a 256MB unit.

You need PC100 laptop RAM, or low-density PC133 - recognizable by 8 chips per side (16 total) on a 256MB DIMM. Both of these are of 144-pin variety.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George
