Driver for Mat**bleep**a UJDA765 DVD/CDRW

Looking for the driver for a Mat**bleep**a UJDA765 DVD/CDRW drive on a T42.  Any direction would be much appreciated.  I have had no luck locating the driver on the T42 Drivers and Software support page.  Hopefully I am not simply overlooking it.

Re: Driver for Mat**bleep**a UJDA765 DVD/CDRW

There is no "driver" if you're using a fairly recent operating system (anything post-98SE).

The drive should be able to boot from a CD or DVD with no additional software.

For CD-burning, or DVD playing, additional programs are required.

Cheers,

George

Re: Driver for Mat**bleep**a UJDA765 DVD/CDRW

Running XP and trying to troubleshoot to determine if my problem is the hardware, the drive is not recognizing DVDs or CDs. I am unable to explore a data CD or DVD, blank discs are not detetcted.

I went to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>DVD/CD-ROM Drives and uninstalled. Rebooted XP, the device appeared under Device Manager but no change in the outcome.

Any suggestions to make sure there is a problem with the hardware?

Re: Driver for Mat**bleep**a UJDA765 DVD/CDRW

Hello,

Try placing a bootable CD-ROM or DVD-ROM in the Matsushіta UJDA-765 DVD/CD-RW disc drive and attempt to boot the ThinkPad T42 from it, either through BIOS configuration or whatever keystrokes are necessary at boot time (the F12 key, perhaps?).

If the ThinkPad boots from the optical media, than it is likely the problem is related to the operating system.  On the other hand, if the ThinkPad is not able to boot from the optical media, than it is likely the problem is with the Matsushіta UJDA765 DVD/CD-RW disc drive itself, in which case it will need to be replaced.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky
