Dual-link DVI capability for 30" display at 2560x1600 resolution through Advanced Mini Dock

Could someone please confirm if the T61 with the NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M is capable of driving a 30" external display when the T61 is in the ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock?

A 30" display at 2560x1600 requires a dual-link DVI connection.

If not, what about the R61 with the nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M card?

Regards,
Omar

the T6 advanced mini dock has a dual-link DVI-D port and will therefore support 30" displays.   the T61p with 570M can drive up to WQXGA (2560x1600) plus its own internal display simultaneously.

Many thanks, Erik. I have suspected this was the case, but several calls to Lenovo sales and tech support had me doubting. They said it couldn't be done.

Have you seen this setup or is there documentation supporting this combination of T61+dock+WQXGA?

one of the moderators over at forum.thinkpads.com confirmed that this combination works.   plus, i know for a fact that the 570M supports dual-link DVI-D per nvidia's specs and the connector on the back of the advanced mini dock (which i own) has a d/l DVI-D port.   i did quite a bit of research on the subject as i was going to go with a 30" samsung, dell, or HP display before i decided on getting a lenovo thinkvision L220x instead.

Here's an update:

The combination of Lenovo T61p, NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M, Advanced Mini Dock and Dell 30" 3007WFP monitor @ 2560x1600 resolution works. I have it running with Vista Business, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with XP or other Vista versions.

Could you post your Vista "Windows Experience Index" score for us, specifically, the
"Graphics" and "Gaming Graphics"
numbers?

I get 5.9 and 5.5 respectively fyi.  I get these sames scores on both Vista Ultimate 64 bit and 32 bit.  I'm using a dock, with DVI cabling to Gateway FPD2485W 24" @1920X1200.  I am very curious to see if pumping that many pixels slows you down, and if you can drive external VGA dual desktop (with laptop's LCD monitor off).

FYI, I'm using July 2007 drivers, the same drivers you are I'm guessing, here's the 32 bit version for example:

Thanks!

Re: Dual-link DVI capability for 30" display at 2560x1600 resolution through Advanced Mini Dock

I don't have the T61p hooked up to the 30" display at the moment, and won't be able to give you the score you are requesting for a few more weeks, but here are the scores while attached to a Dell 2007FP 20" display @ 1680x1050. I will post an update when I am able.

Component     Details                                     Subscore
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz     5.1
Memory (RAM) 3.00 GB                                     4.8
Graphics NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M                             5.9
Gaming graphics 1535 MB Total available graphics memory     5.5
Primary hard disk 41GB Free (86GB Total)                     5.4

Interestingly, the RAM score went up by 0.2 when I installed two 2GB sticks of RAM instead of the original one 1GB stick.

I'm using an NVIDIA driver v. 7.15.11.5685 dated 12/10/2007 - that's what was installed on my ThinkPad.

Yeah, the whole memory thing is another topic, but sounds like you might be interested:

Strangely, since testing back in September, I've also found that on a new 2.2GHz T61p with 2x1GB Kinsgton SODIMMs and 64 bit Vista, I get a 4.8 memory score, not the 5.8 I get only on my 2.4GHz T61p with 2x2GB Kingston SODIMMs....

Well, thanks for offering to test on your 30" display, when you have a chance.  Later!

Sorry for the delay in reporting the score. There is no change in the numbers.

Memory (RAM) 3.00 GB                                     4.8

Gaming graphics 1535 MB Total available graphics memory  5.5
Primary hard disk 37GB Free (86GB Total)                 5.4

Sorry, my memory score of 5.8 was a fluke, repeats (after cleaning up xml file) show 4.8 like everybody else, more info here:
