EU / German Power Adapter

2009-07-15, 13:50 PM

Hello,

I have the Lenovo T61p laptop with the USA Poweradapter. I am going to be going to Germany and I was Wondering if all I need is to add this wire to my power adapter?

or do I need a whole new adapter like this one?

All you really need is an adopter for the plug on your existing wire. It should cost somewhere between 1 and 10 dollars and can be found at the airport in Germany or purchased before you get there. Here's an inexpensive one:

I travel to Germany and the UK quite frequently and just keep a couple of appropriate adopters in my ThinkPad's carrying case.

A simple converter between USA plug and EU socket, or a EU power cord (like the one in your link) for replacing your existing USA cord, is good enough.

No need to change the power adapter.

ps, if you choose to replace the power cord, make sure that the other end of the cord can (physically) fit the power adapter (2 or 3 pins, flat or cylinderic pins, etc.)

Actually the female connector in the OP's link is wrong. He needs a mini 2 pin as seen in this image: http://www.neximaging.com/product.asp?id=42217&ADTR=1 Note: I'm only talking about the female side. He'll still need the 2-Pin German male connector on the other side. I still say a simple adapter plug is the best choce.

You can either use a travel adapter, or walk into the first electrical, Hi-Fi, general or computer store you see and buy one of these, it's know in Germany as the Euro-Flach cable.

Agreed. That way if he visits the UK (or Asia, etc.) in the future he'll just get adapters as required. Or better still, a multi-adapter like this.
