I have a Thinkpad T61 running an Intel 4965AGN. I've had many problems connecting to public WiFi networks, the most recent problem being at an airport lounge. The network was open, unencrypted, and other computers were using it fine. Sometimes Access Connections won't connect at all, most of the time it connects, but won't acquire an IP address (i get the first green check, and the second is a red X). I don't think its software, as i've done a full restore (for another reason), and the problem is the same.
any help is appreciated,

try to disable and enable your network adapter, before you try to connect to Airport network.
Sometimes AC, my Version 4.52, gets no IP, when it was hibernated or in standby before.
