Ethernet Controller Drivers ThinkPad T42p

I have a T42P that has had a OEM version of Windows XP recently installed.  Unfortunately the installation did not reconnize the two Ethernet Controller devices.  I have downloaded drivers for the Intel Pro 100, Intel Pro 1000, Intel Pro/Wireless Lan 2100 3b mini PCI adapter and the Intel Wireless Lan 11 abgn, abg, bg fdor windows XP.  So far no luck and I'm out of Ideas.

The product number for this device is 2379DYU.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

TIA

Re: Ethernet Controller Drivers ThinkPad T42p

Welcome to the forum!

Your ethernet driver:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62922

After downloading it, you must unpack it from C/Drivers/Win/Ethernet

wireless driver:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67214

unpacks from: C/Drivers/Win/Wlanath

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

George

Re: Ethernet Controller Drivers ThinkPad T42p

These drivers worked great for me when I had Windows 7 RC build 7100 installed on my T42p.  Worked great thank you!

Now, however, I have installed the full release of Windows 7 and these drivers are no longer working.  I can connect to the Internet through the wired connection but my wireless does not work.  In Device Manager, the "Ethernet Controller" has an alert that it is not working properly.  Same problem as before, but the drivers here are no longer working...  I think Win7 isn't allowing them to be installed.  Ive already run Windows Update (which fixed several other driver issues) but it did not correct the Ethernet Controller / wireless issue.

Please let me know if you can help.

Thanks!

This link lists the solution.

Key is to install both windows update, and the Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update 4.

cheers!

Re: Ethernet Controller Drivers ThinkPad T42p

[ Editado ]

This did not solve my problem.  I installed Windows 7, did a Windows Update, and installed Thinkvantage System Update 4, and none of them found an ethernet driver.  When I go into device manager it says no driver is installed, and when I click on "update driver", it can't find one.  The symptoms are the same as before.  I can connect wiredly but not wirelessly.  When I attempt to install older drivers, Win7 refuses to allow them to be installed.

Any other ideas?

Re: Ethernet Controller Drivers ThinkPad T42p

Ok, finally got this to work after banging on it for a while...  I'm not sure what all I did exactly, but the best advice I can give you is this:

1) Update everything with Windows Update and Thinkvantage Update
2) Disable the "ethernet controller" in "other devices"
3) Download all the ethernet drivers you think you might need (I think it was this one:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67255

referenced here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-55386.html#networking

4) Install or update some other drivers (or skip this on your first try)
5) Enable "ethernet controller"
6) Within "ethernet controller" properties, select "update driver" and the folder "C:\drivers"
7) It will probably tell you it can't find any Intel PRO/1000 devices or something...  Click "ok"...
8) Then, when Win7 comes back and says "Your driver may not have installed properly" and prompts you to try again with "recommended settings", DO IT.  It should eventually come back and say it was able to install the proper drivers for "Atheros" something...

If this doesn't work, play around with some other combination of the above, with more drivers downloaded from IBM and expanded into the C:\drivers folder.  The critical steps seem to be 6-8.

Thanks for everyone's help on this...  Hope this is the end of the story!
