Dear Mark, it is a bit late to add my reply to your comment. However I have just experienced same problem as one of those guys. I.e. battery used to be reasonably OK but then suddenly one day my laptop could not see it at all - orange indicator is flashing, laptop does not work without AC adaptor. My battery FRU P/N 42T5249 and ASM P/N 92P1172. Notebook is Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad x60s, TYPE 1702-CTO, Product ID 1702WAE. I found on web that there was recall program for this particular battery however they say it is terminated. Could you give me some advice what I can do about it now? Another question - is there any way to get correct pinout diagram for this battery? There is contradiction in the information provided in Hardware Maintenance Manual (42x3550_04.pdf) on page 35-36: in the text they say to check voltage between terminals 1 and 5, however in the table next to the picture they indicated terminals 2 and 6 - so which one is correct if any of those? Thanks

I've got the same battery issue - again! I replaced the battery on my Z61m just over a year ago when it suddenly stopped working.
Now today I have the same issue. It was working fine, then suddenly the system shut down and now I get:
"A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery"
I'm not looking forward to replacing the battery again.

I have the same blinking orange light issue. My battery seemed to be ok before having the issue.
Its a X200, 6-cell original battery, a little over a year old.

Same blinking orange light can't use battery problem on an X60S with 8 cell (big) battery. Battery is a few years old, but I was still getting a few hours out of it. Computer reports that battery is currently holding 37.6 Wh. FRU: 93P5029, ASM: 92P1172. Not covered by the recall
I had not used the battery for a few months, and then when I attached it two days ago it no longer worked.

I have the same problem!
1. swapping for a new battery.
2. running Battery Maintenance
3. powering down for a few DAYS to let anything 'reset' itself

I have a similar problem where my Z61t laptop dies immediately upon trying to run on battery. The battery indicator says its 100% charged.
1. replacing the battery with a brand new battery.
2. running the Battery Maintenance program
3. powering down the laptop for a few days for it to 'reset' itself
Nothing, no resolution.
The fact that I swapped out for a new battery proves the problem is in the laptop, right?
I only use my Z61t for simple word processing and internet. I do not use energy-sucking programs.
Help please! Thank you!

The same problem,
I have an x60s and my battery worked fine until last week.
Now I can't recharge it (orange flashing light...)
If I buy a new one will i solve the problem??
Anyone tried to use lenovo extended life battery?

I too have this problem : the battery was completely discharged by mistake (the charger was not plug-in for three hours!). Nevertheless, when finally plugging in the charger, the orange LED blinks as it should but there is no change. The laptop, a Z61m does run. It's been this way for three days and as soon as the charger is removed, the laptop shuts down.
So, what should I do? Buy a new battery? Why does a complete discharge cause the battery to fail? Or is it the battery?
