Hardware malfunction: Memory Parity Error

*** Hardware Malfunction

Call your hardware vendor for support

NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error

*** The system has halted ***

The above message appeared in white letters on a blue screen.
This occurred while using Mozilla FireFox 2.0.0.11 to move
maps around on a web-page from http://maps.google.com

Fortunately, I have a 5-year, next-day, on-site warranty on this T60p.

This T60p has 2GB of RAM, but I do not know if it is one chip or two.

Is there a way that I can test the RAM to see which chip is involved (if the machine has 2 chips)?

Re: Hardware malfunction: Memory Parity Error

You will have to test each stick separately to determine which one is causing the error.

Re: Hardware malfunction: Memory Parity Error

I've downloaded the memtest program and will try it out.  Thanks.

Re: Hardware malfunction: Memory Parity Error

I am always using the latest version of FireFox, but I might have been on .12 when the problem occurred.

The only reason I mentioned the fact that the error happened while using FireFox to browse a Google map is that I am guessing that the memory problem exists at a high memory address that is not used unless I'm doing something that uses a lot of RAM.  This would explain why the message doesn't appear continually.

Re: Hardware malfunction: Memory Parity Error

This is a software bug. The lenovo people should have told you this. Apparently a download of the wireless software and the video device drivers solve this problem.

Re: Hardware malfunction: Memory Parity Error

The T60p in question has all the latest patches from Lenovo and from Microsoft for XP-Pro and MS-Office.

Re: Hardware malfunction: Memory Parity Error

The other thing they suggested was to reseat the memory...  it might be loose. Its easy to do... there's a video on the lenovo site...
