How to disable Figerprint Reader in BIOS or in Ubuntu 16.04?

2016-06-19, 13:44 PM

Hi,

I have an old T60 laptop. I have never ever used figerprint reader and I don't want to use it. On this notebook there was Windows XP preloaded, but I have removed that system years ago and now I am using Ubuntu currently Ubuntu 16.04.

What I have figure it out it looks like this "figerprint reader" devise is spinning in endless loop making all sort of problems. Executing "lsusb" command in Ubuntu device appears and executing it again device disappears and so on, endless loop.

I tried to disable it from Ubuntu operating system, but I just can't poweroff USB device, because it is appearing and disappearing in loop, so I can't specify a device, because device number is constantly changing.

I would just like to disable/remove/power-off what ever this "figerprint reader". I have look into BIOS | Security | Fingerprint and I can't figure it out how to disable this device - it looks like no option to disable or is it?

Is there any other way I can disable "figerprint reader" device?

I don't have a T60 to look at, but in the BIOS, go to security/I-O Port Acess.  There should be the option you are looking for.

Sorry.  I was thinking about later models.  The screen I was thinking of started with T400.
