My A20m shuts down unexpectedly

A couple of years ago I inherited my sons A20m laptop and I've been using it to play music from internet radio on Media player through a FM transmitter to my stereo. Lately it shuts down after about an hour, it re boots but down again. I've taken it apart to clean dust and checked the fan but to no avail. Its a A20m 2628  128 mgs Ram 6gb HDD of which I have 3.41 free, Windows 98 SE. Anyone know whats happening or is it time to give up on it. Thanks

Re: My A20m shuts down unexpectedly

Welcome to the forum!

I'm very partial towards A20m units, since that was the first ThinkPad I've ever owned...

That being said, I would suspect that the motherboard is on its way out from what you're describing.

Time to move on.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George

Re: My A20m shuts down unexpectedly

Thanks for your reply, I was hoping no one would say that! Any model of thinkpad you would recommend I might find for a resonable price? Thanks

Re: My A20m shuts down unexpectedly

It is extremely difficult for me to give such a recommendation without knowing the specifics of both your needs and the budget available...if you could provide that info, I'd be more than happy to throw in my two cents...

Good luck.

Cheers,

George

Re: My A20m shuts down unexpectedly

Hey George,

I have a desk top as well, but would like a laptop as secondary to use for music, e-mails, light storage, some photos, web surfing, but no games. under $500.00 is what I had in mind for a budget

Thanks,

Paul

Re: My A20m shuts down unexpectedly

You can spend a lot less and still get a very decent machine.

Marketplace at TPF is a good place to start:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewforum.php?f=11

You can also drop me a private message describing your specific needs and requirements and we can take it from there.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George
