I tried many proposed solutions to the problem without success. The following worked for me. It may well be previously reported; I do not know.

Using T-61P (same software as others) and had following programs installed with latest downloads:

Power Manager 5.20

Power Manager Driver 1.67.00.02

On Screen Display 6.70.00

System Interface Driver 1.05

Computer had operated properly prior to latest updates. In my case, at least, the missing display problem seems to have been incompatability of the new OSD version 6.70 with other programs. Removing that version of OSD and replacing with version 6.67.10 did the trick.

The earlier OSD program is part of the prior version of the Hot Key suite which can be found and downloaded via Google search for "3.84.2000" without the quotes and not from Lenovo which only lists present version. When you install 3.84.2000, opt only to install the OSD sub-package.

Registered to just say thanks for this solution - worked also for me, though with different machine (X60s), already tried to reinstall different power manager versions, on screen displays, remove virtual clone drive and whatnot without luck.

For all my elder ThinkPads (I have a lot), Tx00 and older, I stick to version 3.81.0100 of the package completely for Win7, and for those that want the vintage OSD for volume and brighness in Windows 8, this package does the trick.

I feel that some companies would really like us to buy some new products. Lenovo also cleared out the download list for the R60 series and forgot to leave the Power Manager. I am sorry, but the Power Manager?! *headshaking*
