NEW Battery Tip - Applicable for some T, X, R models and batteries

A limited number of ThinkPad users have reported the following symptoms:

• Irreparable damage or battery cannot be charged error message from Power Manager or Message Center
  OR
• Low battery capacity, as indicated by short battery run time or sudden drops in the battery fuel gauge

Only the following ThinkPad Models and battery FRU part numbers are affected by this issue:

ThinkPad	Battery FRU part number
R60, R61, T60, T61	42T4546, 42T4566, 92P1141
X60, X61	42T4550, 42T4567, 42T4568, 92P1169, 92P1173, 93P5028, 93P5030

hi Mark,

i have the same problem for which following batteries are recalled, but my Battery fur # is not included. (my battery fur # is 42T5262). can you help me with this.

The battery program is specifically for qualifying batteries - the part numbers stated above are one of the qualifications.

If you have a different battery, the program does not apply in your case and normal battery terms and conditions are in effect.  If your battery has trouble and you are within the first year of warranty, please contact service for a replacement.

its weird on lenovo part that some batteries qualify and some don't even though problem is same.

I have one failing FRU 92P1141 (cannot charge anymore).

From the tool i get:

"Thank you for using the Lenovo Battery Diagnostic Tool. Your battery is not eligible for replacement because it is more than 12 months beyond the battery warranty expiration date."

Apparently under one month too late. The tip doesnt mention age? the battery did fail way before this date, but there was no tip or warranty availiable then :-(

Hi Mark, My thinkpad t61p got this problem, and my battery's FRU part number is 42T4566.

Now I live in Canberra, Australia. How can I change the battery? Do I need pay anything for this changing?

just use the tool that is provided in that link, you can fill out the details as such, so that they can send it your Australian address.

Hi, Mark.

I can't say I've got the same problem on my T61p, but my battery can only store 59% of original full charge capacity and the condition is fair. First used date: 2008-03  cycle count:77    FRU:42T4504

So I doubt some T61ps have same issue. Please double-check if possible.

I have a T61 with 42T5262 too - 7664-16U purchased in the U.S. Battery performance has been, well, unsatisfactory. Capacity dropped like a rock efter about 8 months. After 15 months it was down at 30%, now less than 30 minutes. Manufacture date of battery was 04/2007, first batch of T61's shipped to US I guess.

I hesitate to replace it because I fear that the replacement will be just as bad.

Hi, Mark, I am using  a Thinkpad T60, and the battery FRU is  92P1141, which is qualified for this replacement.  

However,  the Battery Diagnostic Tool said "Your battery is not eligible for replacement because it is more than 12 months beyond the battery warranty expiration date".

I bought this laptop on Aug., 2006, and my battery is dead almost two years ago. Can I still replace it? Thanks.
