Need to replace hard drive

I want to get the 2tb western digital  internal hard drive for my t40p.  I've been reading that if its not a Lenovo hard drive I might have warning messages at boot, is this correct?  I've compared the size and it looks like it will fit.

Also, my old hard drive failed so what else do I need to get my laptop working, a recovery disk or will rescue and restore work?  Will one of these recover Windows?

Re: Need to replace hard drive

Welcome to the forum!

Your T40p requires a PATA/IDE hard drive, and the largest one available is WD 250GB/5400rpm. No errors will be triggered, this is a problem only  with T43/p, R52 and X41/T units.

You will need a set of recovery disks to get your ThinkPad to factory state once the new drive is installed.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

George
