No Audio Device

I'm not sure when this happened, but I no longer have sound on my t42.  If I go into device manager, a SoundMax device is not included in the list.  And if I go into sounds and audio devices on the control panel, it also says that there is no audio device.

I was under the impression (from reading the forum discussions), that my computer wasn't recognizing the device because the driver was corrupted.  So I removed the SoundMax driver and tried to re-install the software on my computer (from Lenova downloads).  It doesn't allow me to fully install the software because it tells me that "no audio device was found" (or something like that) and then tells me to reboot.  After reboot, same message.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?
