My T-41 died from a coffee spill on the keyboard. I removed the hard drive and connected it to another computer. I can see the data files but cannot open them. My computer was protected by a password. What can I do to open the files so that I can save them to a flash drive or burn a CD?

you would need to attach it to a similar class Thinkpad's main hdd bay, i.e. T40, T41, T42, R51, R52, etc.

Thank-you very much. If I cannot read it by plugging it into another computer with the same type hard drive and logging in as Philip with my password, I'll look for someone with the same type Thinkpad.

If you can see the file structure, you didn't have a hard disk password set in BIOS, therefore you wont need a similar ThinkPad.
You need to take over ownership of the files / folders; enter the properties of the folder you need to access and choose security, then advanced and choose owner. You should be able to take ownership of the folder.
This is something you can find in the windows help by searching on "owner"
Hope this helps
