Removing IBM Rescue & Recovery - ibmfilter.sys problems

A few of my users have been having BSOD's on their T4X series laptops. I've examined the dump files and it points to ibmfilter.sys. I found the support page http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4Q2QAK indicating to upgrade to the latest version of Rescue and Recovery. We don't use Rescue and Recovery (We have our own imaging solution), and the Rescue & Recovery software is not currently installed on the computer, that I can see in Add/Remove programs.

How can I remove the ibmfilter.sys file and Rescue & Recovery software completely? Deleting the ibmfilter.sys does not work; it comes back after a reboot.

Re: Removing IBM Rescue & Recovery - ibmfilter.sys problems

Here is my fix for the problem:

First try safe mode with networking. Logon as admin to local machine to prevent any weird gp software restrictions, etc. Try running C:\Program Files\IBM\IBM Rapid Restore Ultra\Uninstall IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore Update 1.01.exe  (this never works for me, but give it a shot)

If that doesn't work, while in safe mode with networking as admin to local machine:

regedit: hklm/system/controlset001/services
delete IBM Rapid Restore Ultra Service key
delete ibmfilter key

regedit: hklm/system/controlset003/services
delete IBM Rapid Restore Ultra Service key
delete ibmfilter key

delete c:\program files\ibm\IBM Rapid Restore Ultra directory and all subdirectories

delete c:\windows\system32\drivers\ibmfilter.sys

reboot
should be gone, file won't reappear and no more BSOD

Finally, update your image to not include the program in the first place.
