Replace Hard Drive

I want to replace my hard drive (Model ST910021AS) with a larger capacity.

Can I just go to my local hardware vendor and buy a larger drive?  I don't want to loose any features such as the shock protection or temperature reporting?

Thanks!

Re: Replace Hard Drive

Thinkpads should have built in accelerometer (APS) that controls the head parking of harddrive, while some harddrive have builtin shock detection feature, most of the newer harddrive have head parking feature, therefore most of the new harddrive should be compatible with Lenovo's APS. Not sure about temperature reporting, but i imagine it is fairly common, as most other laptops can also report hdd temp. I can use it on my desktop.

If you are worried just get Hitachi Travelstar, Seagate or Fujitsu harddrive.
