Re: T30 - Where to buy parts? Original replacement parts?

Hello. I have a T30 that I want to bring back to life. I get "fan error" and used to get some hard drive error. Oh and I also need a keyboard...

I want to buy the highest quality replacement parts. Many parts I see seem to be aftermarket production. Is it even possible to buy original equipment parts? In other words where's the "best" place to get the "best" parts?

Thanks!

Re: T30 - Where to buy parts? Original replacement parts?

Welcome to the forum!

Keyboard can be located on eBay, all T30 keyboards were made for IBM and there's no "aftermarket" offerings in this area.

As for the hard drives, any PATA/IDE 9.5mm laptop hard disk drive will work just fine in a T30.

Fan error can be related to the fan itself (might need cleaning or replacement) or a motherboafrd issue, but for advising on proper fan you'd need to post the 7-character model number of your T30, should be something like 236?-???

George

Re: T30 - Where to buy parts? Original replacement parts?

Hey thanks a lot! I loved my T30 and want to get it going again.

Noted re hard drive and keyboard. Thanks.

The T30 is a 2366-97U. The fan is dead and wont turn at all. I took it apart and cleaned it but it still doesnt work. I think the little brushes (is that what theyre called?) inside are just plain worn out. As far as the rest of the assembly there doesnt seem to be much to go wrong other than the little 5VDC 0.3A fan.

Perhaps I could buy just the little 5VDC 0.3A fan? That might seem too easy or not expensive enough... :)

Other markings on the unit include: 203, 2Y291, MCF-203AM05, IBM P/N 46P2958, FRU  P/N 46P3132 Toshiba.

I see fans for sale but cant tell if they are original or knock-offs (or new or used for that matter). This T30 was the best their was when I bought it. It just seems right to give it the best parts. Thanks again!

Re: T30 - Where to buy parts? Original replacement parts?

That's a pretty high-end T30...bluetooth, SXGA+...used to have one of these as my "on the go" machine for quite a while and loved it...

Throw the FRU number of the fan in eBay's "search" function and Google it as well, I'm sure you'll come with a zillion hits. You're most likely to find a refurbished fan given the age of the machine, but that's OK in my book.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Cheers,

George

Re: T30 - Where to buy parts? Original replacement parts?

most likely these fans are used or refurb, no company would try to knockoff these fans, since it is a niche market, and the manufacturers would get much money selling you these to people whom just odd replacement. There is not many people doing fan replacement to make such venture profitable.
