T40 KEYBOARD NOT WORKING AFTER STARTUP

IBM THINKPAD LAPTOP
T40  237372M
OS WINDOWS XP PRO SP3
•86 key keyboard with imbedded numeric keypad and
integrated UltraNav dual-pointing system, featuring TrackPoint and customized touch pad

SUBJECT; KEYBOARD NOT WORKING

AFTER STARTUP UNABLE TO OPEN SOFTWARE OR USE TEXT IN NOTEPAD AND OPENOFFICE

I HAVE A TEMPORARY  SOLUTION TO OVERCOME THIS PROBLEM BY;

1 )USING MOUSE OPEN START/ THEN  NOTEPAD
STILL UNABLE TO ENTER TEXT

2) OPEN START/ONSCREEN KEYBOARD CLICK ON LOCK THEN EXIT

3)GO BACK TO NOTEPAD ENTER TEXT, NOW WORKING I THEN EXIT
WITHOUT SAVING

I TRIED REINSTALLING XP AND LOST MS WORD THAT IS WHY I AM USING OPEN OFFICE
I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE SP3 UPDATE BUT AFTER USING IBM SYS REINSTALL
DURING RE INSTALL I WAS UNABLE TO USE TEXT FOR WINDOWS LOGIN
THE ONLY KEYS TO USE WERE ÁÉÍÓÚ BEING LATIN CHARACTERS WITH ACUTE SIGN

CAN ANYONE CAN HELP ME THANKS

Re: T40 KEYBOARD NOT WORKING AFTER STARTUP

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Does the keyboard work fine inside the BIOS?

Also try booting from LiveCD of Ubuntu, if issue remains then the keyboard is faulty.

Keep us informed.
