The responses mentioned using a workaround by installing ver 7.2.17.101 (10/26/2004), BUT the problem is I CANNOT FIND THAT DRIVER ANYWHERE!!!

pmolson...did you ever try reading this thread and clicking on the link I posted?

Here it is again incase you're unable to find it:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-54046.html

Maybe IBM's version re-numbering is throwing you off, but that package uses the 7.2.17.101 driver.

Re: T42 Wireless/Intel 1000MT Compatibility Problem

Ok Thanks falcon!

Any idea how to completely remove the already existing driver?

As you know XP won't let u downgrade a diriver. I read on a diffrent web site how to remove a driver permanently, but at a certain point of the instructions ( http://winhlp.com/node/199 ) I got lost and didn't know exactly what to remove.

I got to the point where I got the notepad file with a bunch of OEMX.INF lines, (where X represents #s like 1, 2, 3, etc..but I didn't know which ones ro remove...

Thanks man!

Basically you need to extract the IBM driver, go into the device manager and open up the network adapters section... right click on the 1000MT adapter and select  "Update Driver..." then pick "No not at this time" in the wizard and then "Install from a specific location (Advanced)" then "Don't search. I will chose the driver to install." then "Have Disk" button and go to the location of the extracted IBM files.  You should then be able to manually pick the driver you want installed.

Unfortunately windows will automatically use the newest driver (and ignore installing older driver files) unless you go through this manual process.

Re: T42 Wireless/Intel 1000MT Compatibility Problem

Hello, I've got exactly the same issue (Wireless with WPA(2) encryption does not work with the error message (31) DHCP server not found; unencrypted wireless does work), on a T41 (2373 2 FG). Following the advice given so far, I was able to deinstall the new Intel MT1000 driver and re-install the old version; device manager now shows version of MT1000 driver as "7.2.17.101 (26.10.2004)". However, the problem still persists. Does anyone have any more suggestions what I could try to get encrypted wireless working again ?

Re: T42 Wireless/Intel 1000MT Compatibility Problem

Hello,

Thanks a million to the original poster.

Very simple procedure just "rollback" the driver from within the intel pro 1000 device properties. Worked for me, returned to ver 6.X, everything oaky-doaky.

Re: T42 Wireless/Intel 1000MT Compatibility Problem

The link is not working for me.

Can anyone dig me up a link to this driver or older?

Thanks!

EDIT99:
OK the site says it is a newer version, but the txt file says it is 7.2.17.101
http://www.allpcdrivers.com/drivers/laptop-drivers/ibm/14183_thinkpad_t42_t42p_intel_pro_10_100_1000...
Let's see what happens!

EDIT100:
!!!!
It worked!
The XML file shows 7.2.17.101 and in windows it shows it too now!
Windows would not allow me "upgrade" or "roll back",
I had to tell it which I wanted to use, using the LAST radio button!!!
The normal one I would use where I choose the path would not work.

Re: T42 Wireless/Intel 1000MT Compatibility Problem

I have had problems on and off with the same issue, but after finding this page, and seeing the link to the old driver didnt work, it prompted me to search the web using the hints from this discussion... lo and behold an ACTUAL SOLUTION appeared! ... and even better it's from Intel.

A simple registry tweak - of course, check it out for yourself, do your own research, at your own risk etc, but ...

IT WORKED FOR ME!!!

I just needed to do a restart after the following the instructions below, and wireless worked again first time.

http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-031466.htm

Intel® Centrino® Wi-Fi Products

When attempting to connect to a WPA/WPA2 network the connection fails

NoteThis solution applies to Lenovo* T42, T42p or T43 with Intel® PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection, Driver version 8.0.26.4 or later.

Symptom(s):
When attempting to connect to a network configured to use WPA/WPA2 security, the connection will fail unless an Ethernet cable is plugged in or the Ethernet connection is disabled.

Cause:
Link Status change indicated by the Intel® PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection driver may be missed by upper layer(s). This causes the wireless adapter connection to be terminated and network connectivity is lost.

Solution:
Open registry explorer by going to “Start” -> Run, type in “regedit” and click “ok”.
Navigate to the following path under registry explorer:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}\XXXX\
where XXXX is the driver instance number.
You can verify you are in the right hive by scrolling down the XXXX hives until you see your Ethernet adapters’ name appear as the value of the “DriverDesc” on the right side.
Change the value of “K32MSPD” to “0”, then disable and re-enable the Intel® PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection via the Device Manager.

This applies to:

Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205 For Desktop
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 105
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 135
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2200
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2200 For Desktop
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection

Re: T42 Wireless/Intel 1000MT Compatibility Problem

Thanks a lot. it works!!!!

The change of the driver is not neccesary.

The change of this one bit in the Registry works.
