T43 won't connect to wireless...will with Linux

2015-12-13, 22:55 PM

I have a very strange problem with my T43.  It's an 1872-AU1 with an Intel 2200bg card from the factory.

It works immediately with Linux, but not with XP Pro.  I CAN connect to my home network ONLY if I connect to an unsecured network in my neighborhood (no internet..I just connect to a Linksys router).  If I disconnect from this network and then select my own, I can connect.  Very strange indeed.  I have the latest driver installed and it doesn't matter if I use the Intel Wireless Utility or if I let Windows XP control my wireless. It just sits there looking for authentication and then gives up.

This is driving me nuts.  Thanks.

YES!  I never thought to even check.  I did do an 'update driver' from the device manager to no avail.  I went to the intel site before I read your posts and installed the never driver.  Here's where it gets interesting:

After new driver installed, I got a 'limited or no connectivity' message and an exclamation mark in the taskbar connection icon.  I then went downstairs to the desktop because my son's iphone wasn't connecting.  I rebooted the router and then, heeding some advice I saw on the internet, changed my router settings to b/g only instead of b/g/n.

I have no idea whether that fixed it or the driver fixed it.  Right now I can't mess with the router because everyone in the house is on it, but I will change the settings back to b/g/n and let you know if it definitely was a driver issue.

Needless to say, thank you very very much for the help!  You have no idea (and neither do I) how many hours/days I've been working on this but I was determined to find the issue!  BRAVO!

Thank you.  Yes, it's all updated except for .Net Framework 3.5 and 4, which won't install.  Still working on that.  I'm connected right now, only because I logged in to another network BEFORE I connected to mine.
