T60 dust behind LCD

2008-07-24, 23:45 PM
So it seems I've got a bunch of dust speckles behind the LCD of my 8-months old T60. What do I do? Do I disassemble it? Take it to a tech? Warranty it (will Lenovo even cover such a thing?)?

Thanks for the "don't touch the LCD" advice. I shipped it to Lenovo and after a week without a computer I've got a brand new LCD; they also updated the BIOS :) I had 14+ dark spots, and now no more eye sores!

It depends on your warranty, but I would not touch the LCD at all. Have Lenovo look at it.

It's the most basic warranty. Do I email them about it or file something like a service request?

This is a VERY old issue, going back at least 6-7 years, to A3x and T2x series ThinkPads.

You may want to place a service call to Lenovo, and have the LCD looked at. Do not attempt to repair the issue yourself, you'll destroy the LCD and void your warranty. Take it from someone who has opened the LCD and pulled out the layers apart on more than one occasion.

Good luck and let us know.

Cheers,

George

I agree with ajkula66.

Does anyone have any ideas on what fees may be incurred from Lenovo?

It's a hit or miss...you'll either get a new LCD at no charge, or you won't...they don't bother removing the dust, but just junk the whole panel instead...

Even if the service call fails, these panels are cheap enough nowadays...

Good luck and let us know.

Cheers,

George
