Hey guys,
I have a two year old T61 14.1 Widescreen, Model 7662-CTO with discrete NVidia GPU
Last week I was using Thinkvantage system update as I had just done a fresh install of XP on new HD. It downloaded the files and installed them, however upon restart just booted to a blank screen. I could only access the BIOS and had not made any recovery points, so I decided to reinstall windows again using the Rescue and Recoery CDs.
I was halfway through loading the first recovery CD when it shut down. I restarted and got the fan error message. I tried TPFanControl/ PC Doctor etc to see if I can get it to spin but nothing.
I put in my old HD (functional) to boot to XP, and updated the BIOS using the utility, but to no effect.
I replaced the fan with a brand new unit off Ebay (42W2642) as per the manual and service training videos, applied AS5 etc. I turn on my comp again, and fan error again.
True, the replacement could be DOA. But I think it may be a BIOS / motherboard / fan controller problem. Has anybody encountered this problem or have any insight?
Thanks, I really miss my T61
