If anyone cares, I've reformated my computer to factory state (software is from early 2008) and I don't have the issue anymore.
I haven't updated any drivers yet, and if I do, I plan on doing them one by one and run tests to figure out exactly which update causes the issue.

Seems to have worked for me too. Thanks a ton for the suggestion... this bug was making battery usage basically pointless.
The link is erroring out as "No file found" though. Had to manually search for the driver and download it that way.

Looks like I'm going to have to upgrade back to the current revision... the battery performance is fine, but I keep getting blue-screens from reverting the graphics driver... Generally 0x0000008E first (Kernel_Mode_Exception_Unhandled), followed by three more reboots with 0x000000EA (Thread_Stuck_In_Device_Driver), with the BSOD fingering igfxprd or some such name as the culprit.
