I seem to have a collection of Thinkpads leading up to my T61's. I've had the 15.4 in for a while and love it. It connectss at 144 on my DLink router all the time. After wrestling that bear around for a while, I found a decent 14.1" WS T61. I upgraded it to Windows 7 Home Premium with the same 3 install upgraded kit. They both appear to have the same adapter, but the 14.1 in will only connect at 54mb. I think I've tried everything. When I was downloading drivers, I noticed that my system was identified as haveing the Intel agn (n disabled). Is this a permanent state or is it software? Do I need to get a card that's not n disabled?

"n disabled" is exactly that, there's unfortunately no way to reenable it and you will need to get a new card.
Which cards are compatible with your system can be found out by looking in the Hardware Maintainence Manual, download found here. When obtaining a card ensure it comes with the Lenovo FRU number on it; otherwise it'll throw an error and stop your system from booting.
