Question

I got an T61 7665-12G with a problem about the smartCard reader. Device manager in windows 7 enterprise does not find it or have it in the list at all. The only way to install the driver is to discover this hardware first but it doesn't.

This model is confirmed that has the smartcard since there is a slot in the side and smartcards slide in without problem.

So what to do? Is there some kind of fix for this?

Answer

Check:

Is the smart card reader "enabled" in BIOS under Security - I/O Port Access?

(Press F1 to enter BIOS when the system starts booting up)

Otherwise try reinstalling windows.

If problem persists, it could be the device cable is loose, or the component is broken. You may need to call for service for further diagnosis.
