I have the T61 7658CTO with the WXGA+. I recently upgraded the OS to Windows7 and the maximum resolution I can set is 1280x800. On XP it used to be 1400x900.
I've updated both the display and monitor with the latest drivers but no success.
If I go to advanced preferences and update the monitor driver manually, there is only 1280x800 driver in the list.
If I unchecked "show compatible drivers only" I get the full list of monitors, including 1400x900 (which would be the correct one). I can pick that, but when I go back to display properties it shows a generic monitor with default 1280x800 maximum resolution.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to enforce the native resolution.

Welcome to the forum!
Does your machine have nVidia or Intel graphics?

Try the Vista driver:
After the download, you might have to go into C>Drivers>Win>Display and run the setup file from there.

I've tried all your suggestions but with no success:
1. When I try to install the Vista drivers I get the "System not compatible" error.
2. The LCD driver I have already downloaded and installed. As I said, when I select that folder for the monitor, I get only ThinkPad Display 1280x800 in the list with compatible drivers. If I uncheck that checkbox, I can see all the other types of displays. I tried the 1440x900 but it would not take it. It was showing a default display adapter with the maximum resolution of 1280x800
3. I insalled the thinkvantage system update software, did a full update of drivers, but nothing changed for adapter/monitor
I also tried to install the intel driver from the intel support website, but it would prompt the message to get the driver from the manufacturer (lenovo).
When I bought the laptop I had to pay extra for the wxga+ to have the higher resolution. I'm hoping that I can have that on Win7 and not only XP.
Thanks for the help.

What is the type/model of your machine? You can enter the type/serial # on the Lenovo site and find out what parts are installed in your machine. This will help clarify what screen you have.
ETA: Also the BIOS should give you a complete Type/Model without the CTO part!!
I ask because sometimes under older OSs you can change the resolution to a higher one than the default option!
I am running several T61 machines with Win7 (two are WXGA+ and have no problems). I did nothing special!

I just ran my serial number/ type on lenovo website and the above is my display.
The WinXP which was the original OS came with the 1440x900 resolution already setup.
Are your two W7 laptops running this resolution as well?

Well there, that says you only have a WXGA monitor, not a WXGA+ (1440 x 900). Windows XP was either giving you scrolling resolution or there's some miracles hapenning. You should check your original order to make sure you did click the box to say WXGA+.
