T61p Screen options please.

Hi, i have searched all over the internet and i am struggling to find out what screen has been put on this guys laptop: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=85528&start=0

it is a glossy WUXGA (1920x1600) screen. i have a 15.4" T61p 6460-EEG but has the regular 1920x1200 matte screen , which i am finding horrible, viewing angles, dimness, grainy, etc.

does anybody know of any direct WUXGA glossy replacement screens for this laptop? if not how about any good 1680x1050 glossy screens? yes i am willing to "downgrade" the res! i hate this matte dim poor screen. its so poor.

Welcome to the forum!

There is NO direct replacement for your screen that would be a glossy panel. T61p was never offered with one if those.

That being said, you might just want to locate a LG Phillips panel for your machine - what you're describing sounds like a bad case of Samsung - and enjoy the machine.

If you start messing around with the non-OEM panels, make sure that the pinout is correct, otheriwse you have an excellent chance of blowing a fuse on the motherboard.

ahh i see, yes i have heard briefly about the lg vs samsung situation. would you happen to know of a part number for the LG screen??? i have searched all over ebay and it is very hard to come by original replacement WUXGA screens for this laptop. what is your opinion on switching it out with a lower res WSXGA screen from a T61p? would you think there would be any issues???

just want to know all my options.

EDIT: well i have just checked using PC Wizard and i indeed do have a Samsung panel. So does anybody know of the part number for the LG panel???

LG panel is FRU 42T0361

Make sure that it's a *genuine* Lenovo-issued panel with a FRU number stamp, and not a "compatible" replacement...

compatible means the screen will work in your machine, but it is not originally designed or shipped in that model. Basically, it means generic.

well i am having trouble finding the 42T0361 here in the UK, onlt one vendor sells them at a reasonable price, however whenever i add the product to the basket the item changes from a 42T0361 to a 42T0360. does anybody know if this is infact just the same thing under a different model number? i've tried contacting the retailer but no joy.

are there any other part numbers i can search for besides the 42T0361. this seems pretty rare to come buy
