There are too much T61 and T61P dead with a manufacture error from Lenovo, but they still not make a warranty for us or charge too much money to repair....![]()
I think somebody in US can put them in justice, and maybe prevent Lenovo do it again.

Just before last Christmas, the Nvidia NVS 140m card in my T61 crashed, it just showed random colored squares.
I called customer service, and they sent me a box the next day and the laptop got fixed in about one week.
As for this, it was a good experience.
The the tragedy began.
I was worried that it might get crashed again, so I left to my wife to check her emails.
She only used it for about one hour a day.
One day in May, the machine never boot up.
I called the customer service again, so they sent me another box to return it for repair.
However, I got a phone just now, and a lady said they would charge ~$420 to replace the motherboard.
I was told that they only provide three month warranty for it.
Now it became clear that for the first repair, they replaced the mother board with a good video card.
However, the motherboard itself had a very bad quality.
So for this T61, I just used this laptop for a little more than two years and now I have to throw it into trash can.

I have some positive news for a change.
4 weeks ago my T61p (8891-CTO) broke down with the infamous 1 long beep and 2 short beeps issue.
The notebook just went out of warranty mid January 2011 (still within 6 months after the warranty had expired)
After finding this thread I contacted my local Lenovo support agent (in Europe) which after a short discussion found a case on this exact error and granted a free replacement of the laptop planar (mainboard).
3 days later UPS picked up my laptop for shipment to the nearest repair facility. Another 6 days later I had the laptop back in full working condition.
I am fully satisfied with this support and feel very happy about the way I have been treated.
Details about my notebook:
Thinkpad T61p (SXGA+, 4:3)
Type: 8891-CTO
CPU: Intel Core2Duo T7800 2.6 GHz
Graphic: NVIDIA Quadro FX570M (256MB)
Planar FRU: 42W7650
Memory: 4GB (2x 2GB)

@migselv
Congrats on your winnings!
Do you have any advice for what to say the support people in a constructive way? or did you just happen to meet the right guy at the right time?
My first attempt at calling support was a disaster. To the point where I felt like an idiot for calling at all, being outside of warranty and all. The man I talked to didn't seem to know what the hell I was talking about, and showed very little interest in the problem.
I am planning a second call, but I have no idea how to approach this or how to behave. I could go in very aggressive all-in, or I could go with the ass kissing-method.
