Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut in a ThinkPad

Hello ThinkPaders,

I have a bunch of ThinkPads I'd like to reapply a thermal compound to (W530, W520, 14" T61p, 14" T61 and a X61).

I've read great recomendations about the liquid metal thermal compound [called "Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut"] and I was wondering whether it's compatible to the ThinkPad heaqtsinks [or some of them], as in Grizzly's product page there's the warning message - "The Conductonaut thermal grease must not be used with aluminum coolers!"

I think the heatsinks/coolers are made of copper... but I'm not 100% sure.

1. Does anyone know what are the materials Lenovo use for each ThinkPad model I've mentioned?

2. Has anyone tried appling the Grizzly Conductonaut to a ThinkPad [if so, to which model?]

Thanks

Re: Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut in a ThinkPad

I don't think it should be a huge issue. Give it a try. I am also about to reapply my Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut to my T61, T410 and W510.

W510: i7-720QM, 16GB, DDR3 PC10600 - 1033MHz Kingston Value RAM, 1GB Quadro FX880M, 2TB Seagate SSHD (Internal) + 2TB Seagate Firecuda SSHD (external via eSATA)

T410: i5-520M, 8GB, DDR3 PC8500 - 1066Mhz Kingston Value RAM, 512MB Geforce, 1TB Seagate SSHD (Internal) + 1TB Seagate SSHD (external via eSATA)

That's indeed an excellent paste. Yet is not the same the OP is mentioning ;-)

I don't know for sure if the heatsinks of the mentioned models have aluminium on it but I guess smost probably not. You need to be more careful with liquid metal since it's conductive, do not drop anything of it on another place apart of the CPU die!
