ThinkPad T42p - Monitor goes black.

I am having a problem with my T42p laptop.  While doing anything from Windows XP Pro desktop the screen will goto black.  Hit FN - F7 keys and the screen comes back.  It may do this serveral times in a row or it may do it once every hour.  I downloaded the latest video drivers and edited the color display for the monitor.  Any suggestions???

Re: ThinkPad T42p - Monitor goes black.

Welcome to the forum!

Has your LCD been reddish/pinkish on initial boot lately?

If you hook up an external monitor, does the picture disappear from it as well, or just from the LCD?

Good luck and let us know.

Cheers,

George

Yes it has been a little pink when starting up and when I connect a monitor to it and view both at the same time the laptop screen will go black but the monitor stays on.  What are your thoughts??

Re: ThinkPad T42p - Monitor goes black.

The backlight (CCFL) in your LCD is on its last leg, red/pink hue is a dead giveaway for that issue.

Although the backlight itself can be replaced, it's a headache of a job, and your best bet would to be to replace the screen, or an entire lid.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George
