Re: Thinkpad G41

That is what I thought at first but after 2 other motherboards still not booting up/putting anything on the screen I am more doubtful it is just the motherboard.  What are the odds I got 2 bad new motherboards that give basically the same exact issues, no bootup/nothing on the screen?

I am thinking the CPU could be the culprit, if get and I install another CPU and it still does not boot up I guess I will try another motherboard or another graphics card(the last motherboard did not come with a graphics card and I had to use my old one).  I just don't know what else it could be.

If it was the power supply I would get no fan or green lights coming on CD/DVD rom/lower screen correct?

If it was the hard drive there would be a difference taking it out when trying to boot up right?  It would at least put something on the screen if I took the hard drive out correct.

It can't be the screen because it puts nothing on a different monitor correct?

Re: Thinkpad G41

I agree two boards defective sounds weird, but keep in mind these are old boards, if there were not stored or cared properly by the sellers, who knows if they're in proper working state.

What makes me think of faulty mobos is the lack of beeps, an almost "naked" mobo (with no RAM, wifi, and no LCD, FDD and optical connectors plug in) should give some error beeps. If you hear nothing is normally a bad omen.

The idea of trying differents CPU/Graphic card is a good one.

Re: Thinkpad G41

New/used CPU did nothing, same thing, waste of time and money, don't know if it is another bad CPU or motherboard, if I do another motherboard that will be my fourth one, 3 bad ones seems very odd.  This is really ridiculous.  Wonder if there was a recall on this model.

I don't know about that. But G40/G41 models were produced by Acer, which is specially known for producing cheap product lines.

Was it always the same seller where you got your mobos?

Re: Thinkpad G41

I thought Thinkpad G41's were built by IBM.  I don't think it was the same seller for the mobo's.  One was bought and tried 6 years ago and it had the graphix card attached, the last one did not have the graphix card so I had to put my old one on.
